The study found that, on average, an enterprise will spend between $5,500 and $7,000 on cloud services in 2018.
The average cost per user is $3,400, but the most expensive of the services is $1,000 per user.
But this isn’t a new problem, according to Pricewaterhouses research.
“Over the past five years, the cost per usage has increased by over 5 per cent per year, from around $6,500 to $7 in the most recent year,” the report says.
It also shows that the number of users who are paying per month has increased from around 300,000 to over 1 million in just two years.
The most expensive cloud services that Pricewaterhill have seen a rise in usage in 2018 are: Amazon EC2 ($6,400 per month) Google Cloud Platform ( $6.8 million per month, up to $9,200 per month in 2019) Microsoft Azure ( $7.4 million per user, up from $5.8 in 2018) Netflix ( $4.7 million per year in 2019, up up from around 2 million in 2017) Microsoft Hyper-V ( $8.8 per user per month per year) Microsoft Exchange Server ( $12 per user each month) Amazon Web Services ( $17.6 per user annually, up slightly from $13.4 in 2018).
However, Pricewaterhills report doesn’t cover cloud-based services that don’t require a dedicated hosting plan.
“There are a few cloud services, such as Dropbox, that offer a subscription plan that provides additional benefits such as a one-time payment of $50, and a free month of access to the app,” the firm says.
“Other cloud services offer paid cloud access, including AWS, Google Cloud, Amazon, Microsoft Azure, Oracle, IBM, IBM Watson, SAP, Red Hat, and others.”
There’s also the option of using cloud-hosting services such as Microsoft Azure to keep the costs down, but you’ll need to pay for each service separately.
“The cost per person is higher in these higher-cost cloud services because they require more hardware, which is not the case for cloud services with a subscription option,” the research company says.
That said, if you’re looking to save up for a cloud service that’s currently more expensive than the cloud you can use a little creative.
“It’s worth taking into consideration the different benefits of your cloud services and considering whether or not you would use them if you had access to a dedicated cloud service,” the company says in its report.
In short, you might be able to save some money with the right services.
